A native of Florida, Zachary Sullivan received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Florida. Mr. Sullivan started his teaching career at Bradford High School in Starke, Florida in January of 2017. While at Bradford, he rebranded the band program as the “Scarlet Storm” and successfully doubled the program to consist of two concert bands, two jazz bands, a percussion ensemble, a competitive Winter Guard, and Majorette Team. After two years under Mr. Sullivan’s direction, the school earned its first-ever Otto J. Kraushaar award from the Florida Bandmasters Association for earning straight Superior ratings in all District and State marching and concert assessments throughout the year. Under Mr. Sullivan’s direction, the band program received consistent Superior ratings at district music performance assessments. In early 2020, both concert bands and the jazz band received straight superior ratings for the first time in school history.
While studying at the University of Florida, Zachary was the Principal Euphonium of the UF Wind Symphony from 2012 - 2016 under the direction of Dr. David Waybright. In the summers of 2014 and 2015, Mr. Sullivan was a member of the 10-time World Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from Allentown, Pennsylvania where he performed on Baritone. While he was a member of The Cadets, the Brass section won the coveted Jim Ott Award for Best Brass Performance in the 2015 DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sullivan has performed with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Ocala Symphony Orchestra, and Gainesville Pops on trombone and euphonium. Mr. Sullivan has performed at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois and the National Concert Band Festival also in Indianapolis, Indiana. Zach has performed with the Dallas Brass Quintet as well as working with the professional ensemble to provide his students with an unforgettable musical experience.
During the summer, Mr. Sullivan works as a member of the Brass Instructional Staff for the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps from LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In the past, Mr. Sullivan has taught Brass at the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps from Casper, Wyoming and Visual at Infinity 3 WGI Independent Percussion A from Orlando, Florida. Mr. Sullivan is a Quarterfinalist for the GRAMMY organization’s Music Educator of the Year award, a recipient of the Florida Bandmasters Association’s Tom Bishop Award, and Bradford High School’s 2020 Teacher of the Year.
